Checa in Japan for Suzuka 8 Hours testing

Carlos Checa has thrown his name into the hat for participation in the 2007 edition of the Suzuka 8 Hours race, which takes place in July at the Japanese circuit. The Spaniard headed to Japan after Monday's post-race test in Turkey to practice for the endurance event which was last won by MotoGP representatives, Colin Edwards and the late Daijiro Kato, in 2002.

"I will be in Japan for the next few days," commented Checa. "I like the challenge of the 8 hours very much, and I am seriously considering an offer from Honda to compete in this year's race."

The race traditionally takes place on the final Sunday of July, and has seen many MotoGP stars dip their feet into the world of endurance racing, including Mick Doohan, Toru Ukawa and Valentino Rossi.

Checa will return to Asia soon after concluding the test, with the next round of the MotoGP World Championship taking place next weekend in China. The veteran rider is not a fan of the Shanghai circuit, but is looking to bounce back from a disappointing Grand Prix of Turkey.

"I have to concentrate on the next GP in Shanghai, because we already have a base set up to develop even if the Chinese track is not one of my favourites. I think that some points are very interesting, but it suits F1 machines more than two-wheels."
