CEV Buckler kicks off in Albacete

The CEV Buckler Spanish Championship held its first race of the 2007 season on Sunday, at the Albacete Circuit. Overcast conditions thankfully didn't convert into rain over the weekend, leaving the riders free to pit their skills against each other on track.

In 125GP, Pere Tutusaus took the opening victory of the year, ahead of Enrique Jerez and Ivan Maestro in a closely fought battle. Efren Vazquez, Stefan Bradl and Jose Salom completed the top six on Aprilia bikes.

Red Bull MotoGP Academy riders also had a respectable showing as they continue their development as part of the youth initiative. Takaaki Nakagami was the highest placing of the trio in 8th place, with Jonas Folger 14th and Isaac Viñales 18th.

Other riders of note taking part on Sunday were Federico Biaggi, nephew of former MotoGP star Max, and Axel Pons, son of Sito. The second round of the CEV Buckler takes place in a month's time at Montmelo in Catalunya.
