Hopkins pleased with early China form

John Hopkins clocked the fastest time of the first day in China to stake his claim to MotoGP glory this weekend, and confessed that he had always expected to go well at the Shanghai International Circuit.

"I used the same set of tyres for the entire session, and I was happy with the way things went. I feel really good," said the Rizla Suzuki rider.

Hopkins was on the front row for last year's race, and narrowly missed out on his first podium after a hard-fought battle with Colin Edwards. This year he will face stiff competition from the Ducati riders on the Chinese straights, something that he states will not worry him too much.

"Yeah, Ducati have the advantage on the two long sections, but they we still have to get the bikes round the corners, so it's no big problem," explained the Anglo-American.
