Herve Poncharal, Team Manager for Dunlop Tech 3 Yamaha, oversaw the dawn of a new era for the satellite outfit this year with the introduction of Makoto Tamada and Sylvain Guintoli to their ranks.

The Frenchman spoke to motogp.com ahead of the Sinopec Great Wall Lubricants Grand Prix of China to assess the duo's first three races for the team, and expressed particular satisfaction with countryman Guintoli's progression at the start of his rookie year.

"I'm honestly very happy with the first three races. Particularly in Istanbul where we were cutting the gap between ourselves and the other teams," explained Poncharal. "I am really pleased with Sylvain's start to the season, because he is competing well with his team-mate and is coming within a second of Makoto's times. We took a gamble by moving him up from 250cc, and it seems to be paying off."

"We have been improving, but of course our rivals are also getting better, especially with the tyre war going on," he added. "Now we arrive in China hoping for a good result."

IRTA President Poncharal also spoke about the organisation's plans for the year, with sponsorship a top priority.

"We had a meeting in Barcelona between Dorna and all the teams, and at least this was an open forum for everybody to give ideas – whether they are easy to implement or not. The sponsorship issue is something we need to address."
