Lorenzo demonstrates power in morning display

This morning's Sinopec Great Wall Lubricants Grand Prix of China free practice session for the 250cc category riders saw World Champion Jorge Lorenzo set the pace again.

This morning's Sinopec Great Wall Lubricants Grand Prix of China free practice session for the 250cc category riders saw World Champion Jorge Lorenzo set the pace again, lapping almost half a second quicker than his closest rival Andrea Dovizioso at the Shanghai International circuit.

In doing so Fortuna Aprilia's Lorenzo set a new circuit best lap of 2'04.972, knocking 0.304s off his own record set yesterday as he took provisional pole in the afternoon qualifying session.

Dovizioso, the man who stopped the title-holder and current World Championship leader in his tracks in Turkey, was 0.467s behind the dominant Lorenzo in this run out. The Kopron Team Scot rider will need to step up his game to catch the Spaniard in this afternoon's final qualifying session if he is to improve on his current provisional fourth place on the grid.

The continually impressive 125cc World Champion Alvaro Bautista (Master – Mapfre Aprilia) will also hope to be right in the mix during qualifying and therefore Sunday's 250 race – he was third fastest in qualifying yesterday and again in this free practice outing, lapping 0.635s behind Lorenzo.

Team Toth Aprilia's Hector Barbera and Repsol Honda's Julian Simon (provisionally second on the starting grid) completed the top five in the practice run and will be back on track with the rest of their 250cc colleagues at 3.05pm local time this afternoon to complete qualifying for the fourth race of the season.
