Sergio Gadea (Bancaja Aspar) came out on top of the timesheets in the second 125cc free practice session in Shanghai, before final qualifying this afternoon for the Sinopec Great Wall Lubricants Grand Prix of China.

The Aprilia equipped 22 year-old Spanish rider recorded a lap of 2'12.198 - almost half a second quicker than his nearest rival, Mattia Pasini (Polaris World), another Aprilia rider who yesterday took provisional pole for Sunday's race. Gadea himself is provisionally fourth on the starting grid for the fourth race of the season.

Also featuring in the top five were the Czech rider Lukas Pesek (Valsir Seerdorf Derbi), the Hungarian Gabor Talmacsi (Bancaja Aspar) who currently leads the World Championship and young Englishman Bradley Smith (Repsol Honda).

Pablo Nieto (Blusens Aprilia) was sixth quickest, just in front of Tomoyoshi Koyama (Red Bull KTM), while a trio of Spaniards comprising Hector Faubel (Bancaja Aspar), Pol Espargaro (Belson Campetella) and Joan Olive (Polaris World), completed the top ten.
