Hopkins didn't settle for third

Realising a dream a long time in the making, John Hopkins now has a podium finish to his name after a great race in China.

Realising a dream a long time in the making, John Hopkins now has a podium finish to his name after a great race in China. The Anglo-American has been close to the rostrum places on a number of occasions, with last Sunday's result a well earned one after impressing all weekend in Asia.

The Rizla Suzuki rider explained later in a press conference that his mindset was definitely not to settle for the lowest step, despite the blistering pace of Casey Stoner and Valentino Rossi ahead of him.

"The last two laps I was really wanting to chase down Valentino, but I was just praying that things didn't go wrong with the bike," said Hopkins. "Just to be able to hang with those guys was an achievement; I really wasn't expecting that kind of pace."

"The front two were kind of my ticket to a break-away, and the performance of the Bridgestones was outstanding. Without them I think we would be lost," he continued. "Now that I have one podium I can see many more coming. With it done I have a stepping stone to climb to the top of the podium in the future."
