Marco Melandri this week used his official website to evaluate the performances of his MotoGP rivals, just a week before he attempts to take consecutive victories at the French circuit of Le Mans. The Gresini Honda rider's ranking is naturally topped by the standout star of the moment; Ducati's Casey Stoner.

"The way that Ducati have been able to make the most out of the 21 litre capacity and the cylinder change has been incredible," commented Melandri, who was linked with a ride on the Desmosedici GP7 at the tail end of last season. "They have left those that doubted their capabilities red faced."

Second placed rider Valentino Rossi also received plaudits from his fellow Italian. "Rossi had a great race in Shanghai, although when he had to follow a rider with a better top speed than him he made a mistake. Maybe he isn't an alien after all…."

The former 250cc World Champion had kind words for podium finisher John Hopkins and the Kawasaki Racing team, although enthused less highly over the start to the season that Dani Pedrosa has experienced.

"A little bit more was expected from Pedrosa and his RC212V. I'm not exactly sure how much more there is to his bike than to mine, but it's clear that there is a lot of work to be done," he evaluated.
