French riders Sylvain Guintoli and Randy de Puniet, along with their Japanese counterpart Shinya Nakano, were present for the traditional half marathon of Le Mans today.

The athletes participating in the annual event commenced their plus 13 mile run in front of a crowd of several thousand spectators, with the start of the race signalled by the three MotoGP riders - as they relaxed on the eve of the Alice Grand Prix de France.

The race got underway in the Place des Jacobins in Le Mans, and in addition to the trio of riding superstars amongst the spectators was French athlete Stephane Diagana - a 400m gold medal winner at the 1997 World Championships in Athens and the 2002 European Championships in Munich.

The residents of Le Mans were out in force to cheer the runners on and many of them took the opportunity to ask De Puniet, Guintoli and Nakano for autographs, with the affable MotoGP threesome more than happy to oblige.

The good humoured Nakano amused the crowd by joining in with the runners during the first few metres of the race, but of course the Konica Minolta Honda man was merely jesting as he will need to reserve all the energy he can for tomorrow's first day of practice at the fifth Grand Prix of the season.
