Valentino Rossi's second place finish at the last Grand Prix in Shanghai meant he stepped onto the podium for the 94th time in his premier class career.

That rostrum appearance took him to within one podium finish of equaling the all-time record held by MotoGP Legend Mick Doohan - who is the rider who has finished in the top three most frequently in the premier class.

Australian five-time World Champion Doohan stood on the podium on 95 occasions, winning 54 races, finishing second 31 times and third 10 times.

Rossi has 59 wins, 24 second places and 11 thirds to his name and with those 59 victories he is just 9 first place finishes short of the all-time win record held by Giacomo Agostini - who crossed the line first 68 times in the premier class. Agostini is third in the podium appearances table with 20 second place finishes (and no thirds) in addition to his 68 wins.
