In the last of the opening morning's free practice sessions at the Alice Grand Prix de France the 250cc riders took to the track at 11.15am local time for their customary hour long run-out.

World Champion Jorge Lorenzo (Fortuna Aprilia) has rarely been off the top slot in the timesheets so far in 2007, but the fifth Grand Prix weekend of the season started with his arch enemy Hector Barbera (Team Toth Aprilia) setting a new circuit best lap of 1'39.496s – which was 0.062s faster than the title-holder managed in this session.

Behind the Aprilia equipped pair fellow Spaniard Julian Simon was the third quickest rider of the practice, the Repsol Honda man lapping 0.213s slower than his compatriot Barbera.

Fourth on the timesheets was Master - Mapfre Aspar's Alex de Angelis, whilst the top five was completed by Mika Kallio of Red Bull KTM 250.

Metis Gilera's Roberto Locatelli is of course present at Le Mans, continuing his remarkable recovery from the severe injuries he sustained less than two months ago in Jerez. The Italian is not certain of racing this weekend but he completed 25 laps of the famous French circuit this morning, and in fact managed to lap quicker than the slowest rider of the session, Honda LCR's Eugene Laverty.
