Colin Edwards has had an interesting two days of practice for tomorrow's Alice Grand Prix de France, which ended on a high note with the ‘Texan Tornado's first MotoGP pole position. The Fiat Yamaha rider had to contend with a bee in his boot yesterday, and this morning had a nasty highside on his M1. Luckily the incident didn't adversely affect Edwards, and perhaps even inspired him to push his hardest in the closing stages.

"I figured that I'd already tasted the ground once, and it wasn't as hard as I remember it. So when I was thinking about the last lap I just decided ‘screw it, I've got a good position already so I've nothing to lose,'" he explained.

Courtesy of his superb lap to edge out Casey Stoner, Edwards finally got his hands on a Tissot watch (the prize traditionally awarded to the poleman) and he was happy with the change from simply applauding.

"Usually I'm the guy sat on the left or the right, so it's a nice change. It was actually here that I thought I had pole once, until Valentino snatched it at the last minute," commented the veteran. "Now I'm just hoping for some luck tomorrow….and also for Mattia Pasini who's beside me in the press conference!" said Edwards referring to the unlucky Italian who has suffered mechanical problems this season when starting from pole.

The press continue to express an interest in the differences between the American's bike and that of team-mate Rossi, although Edwards said that he would be able to reveal more to the media "but would have to kill them after," although he would emphasise the one big difference today. "Yeah, my bike was quicker today wasn't it?" he smiled.
