Elias sorry for team after latest crash

A disappointing Alice Grand Prix de France saw Toni Elias crash out of the action for the second race in succession, hitting the deck on lap seven before he had a chance to swap to wet weather tyres.

Following his first lap debacle in China the Spaniard's luck did not improve at Le Mans, as one of seven MotoGP victims to fall foul of the torrential rain which hampered the riders in the fifth race of the season.

The last two races have pinned back Elias' progression with two crashes coming on the back of an otherwise solid start to the season. A month ago after finishing second with a battling display in Turkey the 24 year old Honda Gresini rider sat fourth in the general classification on 35 points, but after another curtailed effort in France he has failed to add to his total in two outings and has now slipped to eighth overall.

Elias was not adversely affected physically by his latest accident and remains at Le Mans for two days of testing with his team, in order to attempt to bounce back with a better result in Italy in less than two weeks time.

After the rain-soaked race on Sunday, Elias explained: "The situation was difficult from the first lap - the rain was falling and I was thinking about when was the right time to come into boxes when I crashed. It's a real shame. I took a hard blow to my back but more than that it hurts to have missed out on the points again and I'm sorry for the team. We'll stay here to test and work more on the tyres and the bike."
