Kiyonari double victory puts him on top in BSB

Ryuichi Kiyonari repeated his double victory from last year to win both races at last Sunday's Bennetts British Superbike fifth round at Snetterton. The twin triumphs put him ahead of previous leader Gregorio Lavilla in the overall standings for the first time this season, making up a 29 point difference in just one afternoon.

Kiyonari continued his winning form from Oulton Park in race 1 with an assured ride, closing in on Leon Haslam and the Japanese rider's team-mate Jonathan Rea to lead at the halfway stage, after which he never looked back. Rea finished second, ahead of Haslam on the rostrum.

Rea again provided Kiyonari with problems in race two after a fantastic start, but there was no stopping the reigning BSB champion and he took the lead once more with half a race to go. Rea and Haslam repeated their results from the first race to take the podium spots.

Lavilla, who had begun the day with a 29 point advantage, took a bruising when he tipped off his Airwaves Ducati during the warm-up session, and then ran a distant sixth in the opening race, with worse to come when his Airwaves Ducati ground to a halt in the early stages of the second race.
