Rizla Suzuki rider John Hopkins celebrated his 24th birthday yesterday, although his season up until now has already been a happy occasion. The Anglo-American elected to spend only Monday testing at Le Mans after the Alice Grand Prix de France, undertaking work with new parts brought over from Japan to further improve the GSV-R800.

Despite a crash at the still-slippery track, Hopkins was nonetheless pleased with the work carried out in France, and is particularly optimistic ahead of the next race at Mugello. Rizla Suzuki have been on the podium twice in as many races, with Hopkins' first rostrum in Shanghai and Chris Vermeulen's maiden MotoGP victory four days ago.

"We were just trying to improve speed and had new parts to test," commented the birthday boy after his day's work on the bike. "I had new engine parts to work with and, apart from a highside this morning which slowed us down a little, managed to complete our everything we had planned. The engine parts extremely good and I think they're going to be a big help for Mugello."
