Ducati head home in rich run of form

Races at Mugello are traditionally an opportunity for Italian riders to shine, although on current form it is an Italian team who are on top form heading into next week's showdown.

Ducati are enjoying a highly successful year, with the factory team having already equalled their record amount of victories in a season since their arrival in MotoGP. The team lead the way on all fronts, with Casey Stoner leading the way in the riders' championship by 21 points, and also have the advantage in the team standings despite a disappointing start to the season by Loris Capirossi. The veteran has been on the podium just once this season, at the Grand Prix of Turkey, but the rider himself recognised earlier this week that Mugello is a much better track at which to ply his trade due to the lack of slow corners.

As a manufacturer, Ducati also arrive at their home Grand Prix in great shape with their satellite team. The Pramac d'Antin outfit have enjoyed their best ever start to a MotoGP season, due in no small part to the competitive package of the Desmosedici GP7 and their new Bridgestone tyres. Alex Barros gave the team their first top four finish of the 800cc era at Istanbul, whilst team-mate Alex Hofmann earned his best ever MotoGP result at the last round at Le Mans with fifth place.

The first third of the season has until now undoubtedly been painted red, and the Italian structure of the Ducati team would be delighted to top it off with a home victory.
