Takahashi to attempt Mugello comeback

Kopron Team Scot's quickly recuperating Yuki Takahashi will attempt a comeback this weekend in his team's home Grand Prix at Mugello.

Kopron Team Scot's quickly recuperating Yuki Takahashi will attempt a comeback this weekend in his team's home Grand Prix at Mugello.

The 22 year old rider will participate in the first 250cc practice session of the Gran Premio d'Italia Alice on Friday morning to see whether he is fit enough to take part in the sixth race of the season on Sunday afternoon.

Takahashi missed the last round of the Word Championship at Le Mans following an accident at the fourth Grand Prix of the season in China which damaged a metal plate that had been placed in his arm to help him recover from previous injuries sustained last autumn.

The Japanese rider currently sits 14th in the World Championship standings on 17 points after a frustrating start to the season. He finished sixth overall last season having tasted victory on European soil in France and Germany and is desperate to kick start his season this weekend – but only Friday will tell if he is capable of competing in the rest of the Italian Grand Prix.

The former Japanese 250cc champion explained: "I came back to Italy last Thursday and I immediately began rehabilitation. The operation was good even if the wrist still hurts. On Friday I'll try to ride and then with the team and the Clinica Mobile doctors we'll decide if my condition will allow me to race all weekend. I look forward to riding fast and to forgetting these injuries which are slowing down me a lot. I hope that my luck is now coming back."
