Vermeulen looking for dry success

Rizla Suzuki's Chris Vermeulen arrives in Mugello for the Gran Premio d'Italia Alice still high on adrenaline and confidence following his fantastic victory last time out at Le Mans.

The sixth round of the MotoGP World Championship will see the young Australian and his Suzuki colleague John Hopkins line-up in Italy with new engine parts to improve an already competitive Bridgestone equipped GSV-R800.

Vermeulen stormed to his maiden MotoGP victory in a rain-soaked fifth race of the year in France and with Hopkins having taken his first ever podium in the previous race in China there is a great atmosphere amongst the Suzuki team members at present.

With Vermeulen having achieved his first and only other podium in another wet race on home turf at Phillip Island last year, the 24 year-old from Brisbane is aiming to make the most of his current form and improve his performances in dry conditions over the coming weeks. The likeable Aussie is keen to do much better this year on just his second visit as a MotoGP rider to Italy, the scene of one of his most disappointing results last season.

"Last weekend was a great result for me and the team, but that was last week and now we have to start all over again at Mugello," commented Vermeulen. "I struggled to get to grips with the circuit last year and only managed 14th in the race. I am determined to do better than that this year as I know I have improved and so has the bike."

"Monday's test at Le Mans was pretty good and we will have the new parts for Italy. I am looking forward to getting back out there and we must now build on the wet win and podium and start doing it in the dry - which I know we are capable of!"
