Ahead of his chance to put in some ´flying laps´ of his own at the Mugello circuit today, MotoGP star Loris Capirossi paid a special pre-practice visit to the 15th Stormo dell'Aeronaurica Militare Italiana airforce squadron. The home rider was welcomed by Colonel Antonio Albanese as he became the number one member of the Motoclub II Pelicano (the Pelicano is a military helicopter used in the war in Iraq) and spoke to motogp.com about what will be the latest in a long line of home races for the Ducati Marlboro man.

"We will be getting a new engine for this race, and I hope that this can improve my performance on the bike in front of my home crowd. I'm having a few difficulties with the GP7 at the moment, but it's normal after having spent so many years developing the 990cc and then moving to a very different bike."

At this stage last year, Capirossi was at the top of the World Championship leaderboard, but has thus far in 2007 only stepped onto the podium on one occasion.
