Reigning MotoGP World Champion Nicky Hayden was this time last year being courted by suitors for his signature, as his contract with Honda reached its conclusion. ‘Trick Daddy' eventually agreed an extension to his deal with the Japanese manufacturer at their home race in Motegi, but before that listened to offers from a number of top teams. At the pre-event press conference held yesterday in Mugello, located close to Ducati's Borgo Panigalle factory, Hayden made light of some of the problems that Honda are experiencing in comparison with the superb form of the Desmosedici GP7.

"It's a great bike. They (Ducati) were telling me that it was a great machine last year, but that shows what I know!" joked the ‘Kentucky Kid' to the amusement of the press. "We need an improvement from all parts, it's not just Honda's fault….but I'm sure that we'll get ours."

Hayden has been pencilled in for participation in the Suzuka 8 hours race at the end of July, and yesterday he also revealed that he would be heading over to Japan early to undertake his first test for the prestigious event.

"I will be doing some testing after Assen, so we'll see how that goes," commented Hayden, who still hasn't had his partner for the two-man race confirmed.
