Hofmann excited about home race for Pramac d'Antin

Alex Hofmann is hoping for another good result in this weekend's Italian extravaganza following his career best fifth placed finish in the rain at Le Mans less than a fortnight ago.

Alex Hofmann is hoping for another good result in this weekend's Italian extravaganza following his career best fifth placed finish in the rain at Le Mans less than a fortnight ago.

Hofmann's French success was the best result for a German rider in the premier-class since Michael Rudroff finished third at the Italian Grand Prix at Misano in 1989, a race that was boycotted by several top riders. The last German rider to finish in the top five in a full strength premier-class Grand Prix was Dieter Braun, who finished fifth in Sweden in 1975.

This weekend the German rider will be making history again, as he will make his 100th Grand Prix appearance in the home race for his Pramac d'Antin team.

Hofmann told motogp.com: "I think the only important thing is that we have a good race on Sunday, but for sure it's going to be a special Grand Prix because Pramac is just around the corner, Ducati is an Italian brand, so it's the home GP for the bike and our sponsor and the whole team so I'm very excited."

"Actually the 99th Grand Prix was really fun, it's my best ever finish and with fifth place in the premier class it's been a long time since a German was there. I'm happy but I'm hungry for more so we'll see what comes out this weekend."
