The unluckiest man in MotoGP, Mattia Pasini, will be determined to end his unbelievable run of misfortune at the Gran Premio d'Italia Alice this weekend, and he made a great start to his home Grand Prix this morning to top the timesheets in the first 125cc free practice session.

The Polaris World rider, who won in Italy last year, has qualified on pole for the last four Grands Prix but has just one tenth placed finish to show for his efforts thus far in 2007. The 21 year-old from Rimini will hope for a change in luck in front of the Italian fans at Mugello on Sunday and was the quickest in the opening Friday morning session by 0.431s.

Pasini recorded the best time (1'59.247s) on the last of his 16 laps and it was no surprise that the pace was more than a second slower Lukas Pesek's 125cc circuit best lap time set in qualifying last season – given that this session took place on a wet surface under grey skies, following some overnight rain in Tuscany.

Another Italian Andrea Iannone (WTR No Alcol Team) was the second fastest participant, while the top five was completed by Gabor Talmacsi (Bancaja Aspar), Simone Corsi (Skilled Racing Team) and the aforementioned Valsir Seedorf Derbi rider Pesek, who currently leads the single cylinder World Championship.
