The early Saturday morning outing in the Tuscan hills for the 125cc riders saw Polaris World's Mattia Pasini lead the way again in the second single cylinder free practice session of the weekend, continuing his good pace from Friday morning.

This was a chance for the riders to get back up to full speed again after their rain hampered Gran Premio d'Italia Alice first qualifying session yesterday afternoon, in which Hector Faubel took provisional pole with a time more than 17 seconds off record pace.

This morning Pasini (1'58.518) came within 0.316s of Lukas Pesek's circuit best lap set in qualifying last year, as the Mugello track dried out following yesterday's storms.

Valsir Seedorf Derbi's Pesek was himself the third fastest rider in the practice outing which commenced at 9am local time, with a lap 0.460s off Pasini's best, while Bancaja Aspar's Gabor Talmacsi was second quickest – lapping 0.398s off the pace.

Both Pasini and Pesek were slowed down by a wild card towards the end of the session and would have perhaps got closer to the circuit record on a clear track, but will have another chance to do so later today.

Talmacsi's team-mate, provisional poleman Faubel, was fourth fastest and Simone Corsi of Skilled Racing Team completed the top five.

The track conditions are currently fairly dry at Mugello although there is a possibility of rain as the day progresses. That could lead to more crashes following the light accidents suffered by Bradley Smith, Alexis Masbou and Daniel Webb this morning, when the 125 riders returning to action at 1.05pm to complete qualifying.
