Fortuna Aprilia's 250cc World Champion Jorge Lorenzo will start tomorrow's quarter litre class race from pole position as he attempts to win a Grand Prix at Barcelona's Montmelo circuit for the first time, following his Saturday afternoon qualifying success.

The 20 year old Majorcan rider aims to win in Catalunya on Sunday for the first time in six career visits to extend his current 27 point World Championship lead and bounce back from his Mugello mishap, which saw him finish off the podium for the first time in his title defence season following a last lap crash.

This afternoon in hot and sunny conditions Lorenzo secured pole with an astonishing new circuit best lap of 1'45.098s, taking 0.815s off the previous circuit best lap record which gave him provisional pole yesterday.

Lorenzo was a considerable 1.148s faster than second quickest participant in this session, Hector Barbera (Team Toth Aprilia) - as his deadly rival was unable to improve on his Friday best, but remains second on the grid.

Starting third is Andrea Dovizioso who was unable to improve his Friday time today but also qualifies on the front row courtesy of his QP1 best.

Aprilia Racing wild card Alex Debon completes the front row after he cut more than a second off his own QP1 time, while Emmi – Caffe Latte Aprilia's Thomas Luthi, Master – Mapfre Aspar colleagues Alex de Angelis and Alvaro Bautista and Red Bull KTM 250's Mika Kallio make up the second row.
