The seventh 125cc race of the 2007 season saw Red Bull KTM's Tomoyoshi Koyama take his first ever Grand Prix victory with a superb win at Barcelona's Montmelo track.

The 24 year-old Japanese rider, won an exciting Gran Premi Cinzano de Catalunya contest from seventh on the grid, ahead of Bancaja Aspar's Gabor Talmacsi in second place and his own KTM team-mate Randy Krummenacher – who rode brilliantly from 15th on the gird to take his first podium. Koyama's triumph is KTM's first win since the Japanese Grand Prix last year.

After leading towards the end of the race and having started third, Talmacsi's Bancaja Aspar team-mate Sergio Gadea was fourth, while fellow Spaniard Pol Espargaro of Belson Campetella Aprilia celebrated his 16th birthday by taking fifth at the track just a stone's throw from where he grew up - in front of a delighted home crowd.

Another solid display from Repsol Honda's Bradley Smith saw him finish sixth, after riding with a leading group of eight throughout the race.

Two riders who dropped out of that leading bunch with just three laps to go were Valsir Seedorf Derbi's Lukas Pesek and Bancaja Aspar's Hector Faubel, who were involved in a spectacular crash. Pesek hit the brakes late entering a corner and took out Faubel, with both riders sliding into the gravel.

Pesek remounted to take three points after finishing 13th and later apologised to Faubel who was unable to complete the race.

Talmacsi is now 13 points clear of colleague Faubel in the 125cc World Championship standings after his third podium of the year - having finished fourth at the last four races in succession before Barcelona.
