Burgess: Weve got to get the same speed as the Ducati

With post-race testing for the Fiat Yamaha team yesterday being firmly focused on their Michelin tyres, very little mechanical changes were experimented with over the course of yesterdays outing. Chief Mechanic Jeremy Burgess has, however, identified what the key goals for improving the bike will be in the next few races.

Weve got to arrive at the point where we can get out of the slipstream and pass the Ducati, so essentially we have to arrive at the same speed. Faster would be better, but the same would be nice, he explained to motogp.com.

The veteran Chief Mechanic also paid tribute to the overall package of the current World Championship leader, indicating that Casey Stoners success isnt just down to top speed.

The bikes got great acceleration and Casey is riding it very well, so its certainly more than just speed, he explained in a tribute to his young fellow countryman.

Refusing to throw in the towel at such an early stage in the season, Burgess also made a positive assessment of Yamahas chances of regaining their rider and team titles.

I know that we have a rider who is capable, and I think that we have a bike that is as good as if not better- than other bikes on the grid, but youve got to have the whole package pretty well and well just have to wait and see when we get to other tracks where we actually are. I think that well be competitive.
