Kiyonari and Rea win Suzuka 300km race

Ryuichi Kyonari and Jonathan Rea -both competitors in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship- took victory on Sunday in the 2007 edition of the Suzuka 300km race for Honda.

The duo triumphed in what is widely considered the prelude for Julys Suzuka 8 Hours endurance event, taking their shared CBR100RR machine round the Japanese track under unpredictable weather conditions ahead of the rest of the field.

Controlling the pace from the outset, the reigning BSB Champion and the rider scheduled for a wild card appearance in MotoGP next weekend at Donington Park were on fine form as they entered a commandeering performance. They will have a chance to build on their success with participation in the famous 8 Hours race on July 29th, alongside their other commitments.

This was my first endurance race and my first race at the Suzuka Circuit, so I was really tense before the race, explained Rea. With a lot of corners, the track was twice as long as the track in Britain I usually race on, but I was able to ride with a good rhythm and really enjoyed the race. With the rain, the conditions were also very difficult. I couldnt tell how the situation with the rain would be, so I was thinking of perhaps entering the pit if the rain continued to become heavier.

Fortunately, the rain cleared up after that, and I was able to run at a good pace and win the race. For our win today, I am really grateful to the manager, the whole team and Kinoyari. My stay in Japan this time turned out to be a really good experience for me. I want to pair up with Kiyonari again to compete in the Suzuka 8hrs, with the goal of winning the championship, he added.

Former MotoGP rider Tadayuki Okada was also in action, but crashed out late on in the race and was forced to retire.

Both Kiyonari and Rea will compete in the next BSB round this weekend at Mondello Park, with Rea set to try out the Team Roberts KR212V at Cadwell in addition to his usual practice sechedule.
