Reigning 125cc World Champion and current 250cc rider Alvaro Bautista will be one of the big stars turning out at the Palacio Real de El Pardo in Madrid this morning, as the prizes are handed out in the national sports awards to celebrate success in 2006.

Alongside fellow motorcycle champion Laia Sanz, who competes on the female trial world stage and is the only other recognised two wheel prizewinner, Bautista will receive the Premio Infanta Doña Cristina for the breakthrough performer of the year.

Bautista is experiencing further success thus far in his 250cc career, having taken his first pole and victory at Mugello and a string of podiums so far in his rookie season.
