Melandri: Donington is my second home Grand Prix

Gresini Hondas Marco Melandri is looking to bounce back from his Catalunya disappointment with a podium finish at the Nickel & Dime British Grand Prix in what he describes as his second home race.

The Italian is of course given great support when he competes at Mugello but he is also popular with the Donington crowd and lives just a few miles from the Leicestershire circuit.

Melandris only podium so far this year in France has been followed by two disappointing ninth places in his native Italy and then in front of 110,000 Catalans at Barcelona, but he was third in last years British Grand Prix and is confident ahead of this weekend.

The 24 year-old, who took one of his nine Grand Prix victories in 2002 at Donington en route to the 250cc World title, believes the circuit is suited to his Bridgestone equipped RC212V and will hope he can recapture his MotoGP race-winning form of 2006 at the eighth round of the World Championship.

Although Melandri crashed out of a rain soaked Donington race in 2005, the Italian may well be hoping for another typical British downpour having since dramatically improved his riding skills in wet conditions to take victory in the rain at Phillip Island last year, followed by second place in Le Mans earlier this season.
