Master – Mapfre Aspar's Alvaro Bautista was the man on the pace this morning in the second 250cc free practice session of the Nickel & Dime British Grand Prix weekend, with a best lap of 1'33.397s.

The 22 year-old Spanish rider is third on the provisional grid and will therefore aim to improve his starting position in this afternoon's second qualifying session after leading the way this morning at Donington Park, knowing that every 250cc race this season has been won from pole.

Bautista's team-mate Alex de Angelis was just 0.074s behind him, while third fastest participant Marco Simoncelli (Metis Gilera) was 0.086s off the pace. Fourth quickest rider World Champion Jorge Lorenzo (Fortuna Aprilia) was nearly half a second slower than his compatriot Bautista so will hope for a significant improvement later today in qualifying.

Kopron Team Scot's Andrea Dovizioso, Emmi – Caffe Latte's Thomas Luthi, Repsol Honda's Julian Simon and Red Bull KTM's Hiroshi Aoyama were the next four fastest riders respectively, while Aoyama's KTM colleague Mika Kallio was ninth and Kopron Team Scot's Yuki Takahashi tenth.
