- Every 250cc race this year has been won from pole. This is the longest run of 250 races won from pole since 1974, when full records became available.

- Alex de Angelis starts from pole for the first time since the Grand Prix of Turkey in 2005.

- Jorge Lorenzo has qualified in the top two grid positions at seven of the first eight races.

- Julian Simon will be starting from the front row for the fourth time in his is rookie season.

- Simon scored his only Grand Prix win in the 125cc race here in 2005, riding for KTM.
