- Colin Edwards starts from pole for the second time in his Grand Prix career, his other pole being earlier this year at Le Mans.

- Edwards is aiming to become the first rider this year to win a MotoGP race from pole.

- Valentino Rossi starts from the front row of the grid for the seventh time in 2007.

- Rossi is going for his eighth victory here in all classes.

- Dani Pedrosas win here last year was the last time he stood on the top step of the podium.

- Nicky Hayden starts from his best grid position since qualifying third at Estoril last year.
