Wilairot making good progress

Quarter litre class rookie Ratthapark Wilairot secured his best result of the season at Donington Park on Sunday coming home eighth in a rain-effected 250cc Nickel & Dime British Grand Prix race.

The Thai Honda PTT SAG rider was back in the top 15 after failing to score points in the last two Grands Prix, much to the delight of team boss Eduardo Perales, who commented: ´Ratthapark proved his riding skills again, as he finished just behind the factory riders in very tricky conditions. Today it would have been easy to push too hard and crash, or on the contrary be too careful and not quick enough, but our rider found just the right pace and was able to reward the team´s hard word taking a great result.´

´We´re pleased with eighth, it´s a nice boost for the following races, we have to keep working like this, even if we can´t forget the fact that our rider is still pretty much discovering the Championship.´

Wilairot qualified 17th on the grid, and once the race was underway he quickly gained positions and was in eighth position by lap 11. From there on in the young Thai rider held his nerve and focus in treacherous wet conditions to secure his best finish of his debut campaign so far.

Commenting on his solid performance, Wilairot said: ´It was a very tough race, but the result was worth the effort. From the very start, I knew that I had to settle for a constant pace - I had to be comfortable but also able to gain positions. Today´s race was all about not getting hot-headed and avoiding any mistakes. In the end I was able to stick with my strategy and I got my best result so far. We did a great job this weekend.´
