Broken femur for Elias as Assen curse continues

A fractured femur suffered in the opening free practice session for the A-Style TT Assen means that Toni Elias will not be able to race in the Netherlands.

A fractured femur suffered in the opening free practice session for the A-Style TT Assen means that Toni Elias will not be able to race in the Netherlands. The Gresini Honda rider has been taken to a local hospital for surgery, and the extent of the injury is as yet unknown.

What started as an innocuous lowside turned nasty as the Spaniard reached the gravel trap, catching his left leg underneath himself as he rolled. Elias was stretchered away from the scene and taken for examination, before being moved by ambulance to Assen Hospital.

Elias has yet to ride a race at Assen, having been injured in 2005 and 2006. In a parallel with today's events, last year Elias suffered damage to his shoulder after four laps of the opening session. This time his absence may be a long one, with doctors initially predicting a return at Brno.
