De Puniet pleased with first day at Assen

In today's two practice sessions on the first day of the A-Style TT Assen, Kawasaki's Randy de Puniet used his time looking for a good set up and tyre choice ahead of Saturday's race and was happy with his results.

The Frenchman aims to continue his current good run of form this weekend in the Netherlands and has made a good start, topping the timesheet for the majority of the second free practice session - until Casey Stoner bettered his time by 0.212s with just eight minutes to go.

The 26-year-old rider, currently enjoying his second year in the premier class category, looks increasingly comfortable on his Bridgestone-shod 800cc Ninja ZX-RR. Having now seemingly recovered from recent injuries, tomorrow he will be aiming to improve on the 11th place grid position he achieved at Assen last year.

Reviewing today's activities De Puniet commented: "I'm very happy. This afternoon, we made some improvements to the front and rear suspension, then worked on our tyre choices for the race, and it all worked very well."

"The bike felt right, I managed good lap times and I'm in second behind the leader of the championship. I know he beat me, even though I was at the front for most of the practice session, but it was more important today for me to find a good set up, and I have. It's really positive and I feel like we're moving in the right direction."
