World Champion and 250cc general standings leader Jorge Lorenzo (Fortuna Aprilia) has a point to prove at the A-Style TT Assen after his costly crash at Donington and his Dutch weekend started well as his topped the quarter litre class FP1 timesheet.

The Spaniard lapped in 1'40.979s, a time 0.153s quicker than his nearest rival in the session - 125cc World Champion Alvaro Bautista (Master Mapfre Aspar). Lorenzo's time was less than a second off his circuit best lap set in qualifying for a race he won last year – his 2006 Assen triumph being one of eight victories he recorded en route to the title.

Third fastest was Bautista's Aspar colleague Alex de Angelis, ahead of Marco Simoncelli (Metis Gilera) and Hiroshi Aoyama (Red Bull KTM). Andrea Dovizioso (Kopron Team Scot) was sixth quickest, while Thomas Lüthi (Emmi - Caffe Latte Aprilia) and Julian Simon (Repsol Honda) completed the top eight.
