Lorenzo displays power with qualifying run

Jorge Lorenzo has looked like he is in a class of his own at times this season and this afternoon in the first 250cc qualifying session of the A-Style TT Assen the World Champion put on another dominant display as he lapped 0.723s faster than his closest challenger.

Fortuna Aprilia's Jorge Lorenzo has looked like he is in a class of his own at times this season and this afternoon in the first 250cc qualifying session of the A-Style TT Assen the Spanish quarter litre category World Champion put on another dominant display as he lapped 0.723s faster than his closest challenger Andrea Dovizioso.

One of Lorenzo's eight wins in his title-winning season last year came at Assen and the 20 year old is determined to get his sixth victory of 2007 this weekend after crashing out in Donington, so he will be particularly satisfied with start he has made in the Netherlands.

Whilst Lorenzo was nearly three quarters of a second quicker than Kopron Team Scot's Dovizioso, last weekend's race winner, he was also a significant 1.170s ahead of Alvaro Bautista, the session's third fastest participant – highlighting his potential to again dominate Saturday's race.

Completing the provisional front row overnight is Red Bull KTM's Hiroshi Aoyama, whilst behind him on the second row are Team Toth Aprilia's Hector Barbera, Thomas Lüthi (Emmi Caffe Latte), Alex de Angelis (Master Mapfre Aspar) and Marco Simoncelli (Metis Gilera).
