Honda Gresini rider Toni Elias underwent surgery in Assen yesterday to stabilise his fractured left femur following his horror crash in the first free practice session of the A-Style TT Assen.

After emergency treatment at the Dutch circuit, the Catalan rider was taken to the Willhelmina hospital in Assen, accompanied by Clinica Mobile's Doctor Claudio Costa. With the aid of orthopaedic surgeon Doctor Wiersma, Doctor Costa re-set Elias' badly broken leg using metal plates to aid his recovery.

The 24 year old rider will today return to his native Barcelona where he will begin an expected seven month recuperation period, although as with all MotoGP competitors Elias is likely to attempt to beat the targets set by his medical advisors and make a prompt recovery to action.
