Rossi: I need a perfect race

For the first time this season Valentino Rossi qualified off the front two rows this afternoon as a wet qualifying session resulted in the Italian ending up 11th on the grid for the A-Style TT Assen.

The Doctor spent most of the session searching for and failing to find the right set-up and tyre combination for the tricky conditions, meaning that he had to settle for a place on the fourth row as he heads into the ninth race of the 2007 World Championship.

In winning seven World titles Rossi has often won races after poor qualifying results, but he has not always been up against opponents as strong as the well-equipped and in-form Casey Stoner is at present.

The Ducati Marlboro rider has won in all conditions this year and with Rossi 26 points behind in the standings and trailing the Aussie by close to two seconds in qualifying today the Fiat Yamaha man knows the pressure is on.

Rossi commented: ´For sure today in the wet we had some problems and the fourth row is not great! Of course in order to fight for the victory here I would prefer to be nearer the front, as to win from the fourth row is quite hard! We´ve given ourselves a difficult job to do and now I will need to have a perfect race, with no mistakes from start to finish, in order to come back towards the front.´

´I´m quite sad about the weather because I think from the front row I would definitely have been in a position to try to win tomorrow. We need to make the right tyre choice and we need to make a good start, because it´s not so easy to pass people here.´
