Smith travels to Barcelona for further examination

British 125cc rider Bradley Smith travelled to Barcelona yesterday for further examination on his hand and foot injuries at the Centro Dexeus.

British 125cc rider Bradley Smith travelled to Barcelona yesterday for further examination on his hand and foot injuries at the Centro Dexeus. Smith suffered the damage in a morning crash with Andrea Iannone at Assen, when he was slowing down and was then hit by the Italians bike.

Smith has previously visited the Barcelona specialists after his crash at Brno last year, where he suffered a wrist injury but made a speedy return to action. The 16 year olds comeback date after this latest incident is yet to be decided, with Smith eager to return for the race at Sachsenring in two weeks time.

I don´t exactly know whose fault the crash is, only that I was off the main line but riding slowly and Iannone hit me. I broke the fifth metatarsal of my left foot and the fifth metacarpal of my left hand. Our plan is now to recover and to do the pertinent rehabilitation; I hope to be back at Sachsenring. First well have to check everything, look at the x-rays results and stuff and then well really see when Ill be able to come back.

Update: According to the medical report, Smith has, in addition to the fractures already diagnosed, a divided fracture of the tibial plateau in the left knee. The tests carried out by Dr. Perramón in Barcelona have ruled out the need for any kind of surgical intervention, and Smith´s leg has been completely immobilised.
