The 250cc race at the A-Style TT Assen saw World Champion Jorge Lorenzo (Fortuna Aprilia) bounce back from his Donington disappointment in style to take the sixth victory of his title defence season at the prestigious Dutch circuit.

Repeating his 2006 triumph in the Netherlands, Lorenzo has re-established his healthy lead at the top of the standings with the 18th Grand Prix victory of his career today, giving him a 23 point championship advantage after nine rounds.

In second place Alex de Angelis (Master – Mapfre Aspar) took his fifth podium of the season, crossing the line just under four seconds behind Lorenzo. The 23 year old from San Marino has matured considerably this year - taking less risks and earning the rewards - having not finished outside the top four in 2007 so far, and now drawing level in second place in the standings with 155 points alongside Kopron Team Scot's Andrea Dovizioso who was fourth today.

Dovizioso started second on the grid and contested the lead in the first lap but after Lorenzo asserted his authority the Italian then briefly had a battle for second with De Angelis and lost out, before eventually also being overtaken by 125cc World Champion Alvaro Bautista - who took the fifth podium slot of his first 250cc season.

Emmi - Cafe Latte Aprilia's Thomas Luthi retired with mechanical problems with six laps to go when in fifth position, leaving Hiroshi Aoyama of Red Bull KTM and Metis Gilera's Marco Simoncelli to battle it out for that fifth place – the Japanese rider ultimately emerging on top in the final lap.

A special mention goes to Simoncelli's team-mate Roberto Locatelli who dropped from 13th on the grid to 20th on the first lap before battling back to cross the line ninth, as he continues his remarkable comeback following the life threatening injuries he sustained in Jerez in March.
