Regularly battling with some of the experienced riders in the 250cc class in his rookie season, Mika Kallio has like fellow first timer and old rival Thomas Luthi- made a positive start to his maiden year in the category. He finished eighth at Assen last Saturday, and could have challenged further if he hadnt have experienced a slight tyre problem at the midway point in the quarter litre showdown.

My start was good, but after half the race I lost a bit of grip and feeling on the front. I nearly crashed once, which made me lose confidence. The guys in front were escaping, and I realised that it was just going to be a case of me keeping this position, commented Kallio to motogp.com, before looking ahead to Germany, where the next round of the championship takes place.

Sachsenring has some very tight corners; its difficult more so than here. Im not so sure about it, he explained.

At the halfway point in the season, the Finn has experienced mixed results so far in 2007. Having to retire when in top six positions has lowered his points haul, but Kallios talent and adaptability has still shone through after two consecutive years as 125cc World Championship runner up.

Sometimes Ive done well this season, other times not, but weve had a few too many problems which disturbed my rhythm a little bit. On occasions we couldnt do as many laps as we wanted in the practice. We have some testing before Sachsenring in Brno, and well see what we come up with.
