Checa enjoys Suzuka tests despite gruelling schedule

Despite the rainy conditions on the last two days of testing for Carlos Checa and his Honda mechanics at Suzuka, the MotoGP rider put in as many laps as possible at the famous Japanese circuit in preparation for his participation in the prestigious Suzuka 8 Hours endurance race - in which he will participate at the end of the month.

Unaffected by the weather and showing great stamina at one of the busiest times of the season, the experienced Checa has been taking it all in his stride, stating on his website www.carloscheca.com: "It's been quite a busy week! After the race in Assen I came straight to Japan to do a second test ahead of the Suzuka 8 hours race, with one of the official Honda teams."

"On the first day, I wasn't scheduled to ride but I spent an hour working on the bike to have it set-up for me. On the following day it rained a lot and I rode on a wet track, posting my fastest time of 2'26.00 after testing race tyres and completing a 25-lap run - usually for this race, the riders switch every 25 laps."

"On the third day I did two 25-lap stints with only a 10-minute break between the two! I clocked a best lap 2'09.40 and my average lap time was faster than Honda's expectation. The truth is I felt really comfortable and I believe we can get a good result. It's a very interesting experience for me."
