With injured rider Toni Elias optimistically targeting a comeback in time for the Cardion AB Grand Prix Ceske Republiky on August 19th, his Gresini Honda team have opted for variation in their choice of stand-in rider for the next two races.

For next weekend's Alice Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland, something of a familiar face in Fausto Gresini's MotoGP team will make his second appearance for the squadron. Michel Fabrizio was previously given the opportunity to ride in Elias' place last season at Donington Park after the Spaniard hurt himself in practice at Assen, coincidentally almost exactly the same situation he now encounters. However, the 22 year-old never had a chance to show what he could do in a race situation, crashing in the final free practice session and breaking his collarbone in a spectacular highside.

Fabrizio's appearance seems to be strictly a one-shot deal, with a different rider coming in for the Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix. 39 year-old Miguel Duhamel, the rider with the most wins in the AMA Superbike and Supersport series and one who knows the tricky Laguna Seca circuit like the back of his hand, will be the second stand-in for the Honda satellite outfit. The Canadian veteran will be the oldest rider on the grid at the American MotoGP World Championship round.
