Smith set for return from injuries this week

Unable to take part in the last round at Assen due to injuries suffered in practice, British rider Bradley Smith has been cleared to return to action this weekend for the 125cc Alice Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland.

The teenager has elected against undertaking a larger recuperation period, with the 125cc class taking a month-long break after their visit to Sachsenring, in favour of making a swift comeback onboard the Repsol Honda. A number of tests and scans in Barcelona, and the complete immobilisation of his left little finger and lower leg with plaster casts, have been used to assess and treat the 2006 Rookie of the Year to have him back in shape for Germany.

"I had an MRI scan in Barcelona which showed just a crack to the tibia, which was big relief," explains Smith. "The doctor said that I can race and so we'll get to Germany and give it a go. The doctor also said I was extremely lucky not to damage my cruciate ligaments. I was so disappointed not to ride in Holland but I was very lucky not to be more seriously injured and I'm just putting it all behind me and concentrating on the race at the Sachsenring, where I finished 12th last year."
