Academy rider Folger wins first IDM race

Jonas Folger, one of the members of this year's Red Bull MotoGP Academy, took his first victory in the German IDM (Internationale Deutsche Motorradmeisterschaft) Championship last Sunday at Salzburgring.

At 13 years old, Folger became the youngest ever rider to win the 125cc race, a feat even more impressive considering it was his first ever event and he also managed to take pole.

Folger will take part in the final four races of the German Championship in addition to his participation in the Red Bull MotoGP Academy project – which yesterday had its latest test session, at the Albacete circuit in Spain.

The test saw seven young riders from the UK, Germany, France, Holland and Spain take part in a ‘casting session' for a permanent place in the Academy. The results were positive, and the hopefuls will be back for further assessment later this year.
