Pernat believes Capirossi to be close to Ducati departure

Amidst the tangled web of rumour and gossip in the MotoGP paddock, definitive statements are sometimes hard to come across. One person who can at least shed more light on the future of one rider in particular is Carlo Pernat, Manager for MotoGP star Loris Capirossi.

Motogp.com spoke to the experienced paddock face this afternoon, to try and clarify some of the options available to the former 250cc World Champion and current Ducati factory rider.

"The market is wide open at the moment, and I think this situation owes to the fact that all the bikes are very competitive this year," noted Pernat. "Ducati have a very good bike, but the other manufacturers are also at a high level.

"We hope that after the race at Laguna Seca, Ducati will confirm what their plans are for Loris. Kawasaki and Suzuki are interested in him, and I believe that before the race at Brno we will find out where his future lies," continued Capirossi's long-time confidant.

"The main goal is to continue with Ducati, obviously, after five years together. However, I believe that he is closer to moving than staying. It's a question of motivation, confronting a new challenge...moving to a new team would be good for that. Kawasaki haven't hidden their intentions to team Loris up with John Hopkins, but Suzuki also need a strong rider with experience to replace John in developing the bike."
