The 24 year old Finnish rider, who is currently seventh in the World Championship standings, provisionally sits fifth on the grid following yesterdays action and will hope to improve his starting position for the tenth race of the season when qualifying concludes this afternoon having topped this mornings timesheet by 0.169s ahead of Master Mapfre Aspars Alex de Angelis.

Hector Barbera (Team Toth) was third quickest at a sunny Sachsenring circuit, while Marco Simoncelli (Metis Gilera) and Alvaro Bautista (Master Mapfre Aspar) completed the top five.

Meanwhile, Andrea Dovizioso (Kopron Team Scot), Hiroshi Aoyama (Red Bull KTM), and Julian Simon (Repsol Honda) all lapped quicker than World Champion Jorge Lorenzo (Fortuna Aprilia) who was a surprise ninth fastest participant.
