On pole for the second time this season, it was a surprised Casey Stoner who collected his second Tissot watch of the year after a lap that wasnt exactly to his liking.

However, it seems that all teams were suffering with tyre longevity at the tricky German circuit, and the World Championship leader was able to hold onto pole for tomorrows race.

The tyres dont last long here before you start sliding about, commented Stoner in the post-qualifying press conference. I wasnt too happy with my first qualifying lap, then my second I messed up by going wide. It was a bit of a surprise that I was able to hold on with that first time.

The Australians time was some way off that of Dani Pedrosa in 2006, although he doesnt believe that it is a big indication of the 990ccs superiority at Sachsenring.

Qualifying tyres are a lot slower with the 800cc here, but I believe that the race tyres are far better with these bikes.
