Valentino Rossi's 2007 title challenge suffered a blow when he crashed out of the tenth race of the season this afternoon, while his title rivals Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa picked up valuable points at the Alice Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland.

The five-time former premier class champion saw his race end on lap five when trying to overtake Kawasaki rider Randy de Puniet for sixth place, losing control of his Yamaha machinery as he hit the brakes taking the inside line on the Frenchman.

The Doctor immediately tried to remount his bike after he ended up in the gravel but a damaged handlebar meant he was unable to continue.

Things could have been worse for Rossi had Stoner taken another victory, but the Australian crossed the line fifth to extend his title advantage to 32 points. Pedrosa's first win in more than a year, meanwhile, brings him to within 20 points of the Italian in the standings.

After the action had concluded Rossi was immediately looking forward to next weekend's visit to the US and told motogp.com: "Last year was unlucky in Laguna and I've never won there. I'm happy that I have a race in just seven days because my feeling now is very bad."
